"All I Wanna Practice Is Make Love to Yous", also known as "All I Wanna Practise", is a song by the rock band Heart. It was composed by veteran songwriter and producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange and released as the atomic number 82 single from the ring'southward tenth studio album, Brigade. The song was beginning recorded as "All I Want to Do Is Brand Dearest to Yous" by Dobie Gray in 1979, though with different lyrics. The Heart version tells the story of a woman who sets out to seduce a hitchhiker in order to get pregnant because although there is a man in her life, he is infertile.[ii]

"All I Wanna Practice Is Make Love to Y'all" was a success, spending two weeks at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100,[3] peaking at number viii in the UK Singles Nautical chart, (becoming their concluding top ten in the Britain), and reaching number one in Canada and Australia. Information technology was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Group Pop Vocal Functioning, and is the only one of Heart's singles to have been certified Gold by the RIAA. On the Adult Contemporary chart, the song climbed to number half-dozen, becoming the third of Heart's four top-10 AC hits (after "These Dreams" and "Alone").

The single was Eye's last pop nautical chart top ten hit in the US to date. The ring had one more top ten Adult Contemporary chart hit with the follow-up, "Stranded"; "Stranded" and two singles from 1994'southward Desire Walks On ("Blackness on Black II" and "Volition Yous Be There (In The Morn)") were also summit ten Anthology Rock nautical chart hits.

Background [edit]

In the liner notes of Heart'south album The Route Habitation, Ann Wilson commented on the band'southward dislike for the song, stating, "Actually nosotros had sworn off information technology because information technology kind of stood for everything we wanted to get abroad from. Information technology was a song by 'Mutt' Lange, who we liked, and it was originally written for Don Henley, but in that location was a lot of pressure on us to practise the song at the time."[4] Ann Wilson has made a number of comments on her dislike for the song, calling the vocal'due south bulletin "hideous" in an interview with Dan Rather.[five] In that same interview, Ann mentions that she's surprised at how many of their fans, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, desire to hear the song to this solar day when Middle plays alive. Although Heart does non perform this vocal anymore due to Ann's dislike on this song, Ann Wilson did eventually perform this song on her 2017 tour, though her version of the song had a few changes.

Content [edit]

The original song equally recorded by Dobie Grayness in 1979 was a love song without a storyline, dissimilar the after version by Eye.

In the Heart version of the song, which is also played out in the accompanying music video, interspersed with sequences of the ring performing the vocal, singer Ann Wilson sings of a i-night stand with a handsome immature male person hitchhiker. After an implicit understanding to remain bearding, they make their fashion to a hotel room in which to have sex. The lyrics brand the proffer that this may not exist the kickoff time the female protagonist has engaged in such behaviors, noting her familiarity with this item hotel. The song explicitly highlights the sexual prowess of the beau, and his ability to hands and repeatedly bring the female protagonist to orgasm. She leaves a annotation with instructions for the homo to brand no try to contact her or track her down. It is subsequently revealed that her intent all forth was to use the encounter equally a way to become pregnant. The lyrics explicate afterwards, when she accidentally crosses paths with the one-time lover, that her baby is the outcome of their tryst and she did it simply considering the man she is in love with is non able to father children.
